What’s Your Calling?

Have you ever asked yourself this question? I’m sure many of us have. With so many distractions surrounding us, it is hard to find our place in this world.

I have asked myself this question many times and it has taken a long time to figure out what my purpose really is. I was reminded of the widow’s story in 2 Kings:4, whose husband had died and had no money to pay off his debts. Being overwhelmed by the loss of her husband, she did not know what to do to pay the debt off. She went off to see Elisha for advice. Elisha then asked her “What do you have in your house?” to which she replied, “I have nothing but a small jar of olive oil.” Elisha then instructed her to go back home and gather all the jars, not one or two or ten. As many as she could and fill them all up. The oil kept pouring out of the one jar until she had no more jars left to fill. She went off to sell the filled jars, paid off the debts, and was able to live on with what she had left.

We concern ourselves with the “when I have” and never focus on the “what we have”. We all have a special gift that we can share with others. Take time for instance. We allow ourselves to make time for the things we want to do. Most of our lives are spent in front of a screen. We may make excuses by telling ourselves “I’m too tired”. Many of us can probably cook or paint, or sing. These were God-given talents to share. As such, you now find me here. Spreading words of encouragement and sharing the word of God. He will motivate you and give you the strength to follow and find your calling. Persevere. it doesn’t matter if you are twenty, thirty, fifty, or sixty years old. Be that one jar of oil.
