I’m sure we are all familiar with the term, Baby Steps. You probably do not remember the first steps you took or that you were crawling around before that, that you learned to sit up, that you first learned to roll over. I’m explaining it to show that where you are is not where you started. It first began with a single action and then built upon that action. But even before the action, it takes an idea, a thought. It is in this same manner that we create an identity. The thoughts you have, have a severe impact on who you become as an individual.
It is hard in today’s world to stand out in a sea of social division to find commonality. We all have different points of reference. All it takes is to cling to one point of reference and find others who are like-minded and find safety there. But the thing here is that we become self-serving in that like-mindedness. We no longer serve the greater purpose but only the purpose of those who share our same interests. We are all individuals, yes, but what greater belief is there than to know that we were all created in God’s image. Not in a physical sense but in the idea that we all have the ability to think, feel, Love, and be aware of everything around us and of the things that we do. We may all recall that there was a point and time when “WWJD” was a popular term. “What Would Jesus Do?” In this self-serving society, it is hard to see the meaning in that question.
Serving is hard. it takes devotion and dedication to put others before you. This world is far from perfect and in fear of coming across as altruistic, it should be the way we as humans should behave. But all of this begins from within and it is not going to happen overnight. This takes time and it begins with a thought. Results are thoughts put into action. We cannot expect the environment around us to change. But we can control how we react to our environment.
We must do all things in heart. Understand that not everything is under your control and believe that God has a plan. Be mindful of your thoughts. For thoughts become feelings, feelings become actions and those actions create your character. Actions have consequences and these consequences affect everyone around us and they multiply. Pray upon your thoughts, that they may be pure of heart. One day at a time. Eventually you will turn over, sit up, crawl and eventually walk your way through life and do as Jesus did.
